I burned 'Pan's Labrynith' and when I tried to play it on my computer, I got 'Reading Error'

Went to the neXtCopy website, and it told me to download 'machinest2', which i did.

Sorry, I am sure this is somewhere in the forum section, but cannot find it.

Now that machinest2 is installed, what do I do next?

The machinist2 is a decrypter and allows you to removed the copy protection.
You must now open your DVD neXT COPY program and select new. You must activate the "software compatibility mode" in this menu. just tick the box. The make sure the source is correct for the tittle you would like to copy and your working folders. Then press the start button. And continue to encode and burn you backup. hope this helps

Thank you for the reply.

But when I select 'new', the 'software compatibility mode' is not highlighted, not allowing me to tick the box (i see it, it is just not highlighted)

(the title and working copy is okay, and I checked the dvdnxtcopy folder, and the .dll for machinist2 is in the folder).

Another problem has developed as well now; after reading your reply, I stopped the reading of the movie, and it shows that very little space on my drive. I cannot locate the temp folder where the old files were written on my computer (before I stopped it, they are still written). The 'temp' folder is not in the neXTCopy folder, as I thought it would be. I will look for them, sure I can find them somewhere, but the first issue of the compatiblity mode not highlighted is the main problem.

Hi again. :rolleyes

Yes, the compatibility mode problem needs to be fixed. I would personally create another new folder on your hard drive- something simple and easy to find like C:/my documents/neXT copy temps. This way you will always have access to the folder and know where it is. Change your temp folder in DNC to the new one created.

Right, what happens when you attempt to tick the compatibility mode box. ??? you should normally be able to tick this with the mouse.

Make sure your source drive is the correct DVD you are wishing to backup. Then try again to activate this compatibility mode.

I have to dash now, but i will return later to try and assist you further. I am sure some of the other moderators and staff will try the best to help you out when they log on.:biggrin:

I found the temp file, and I put a shortcut to it on my desktop if I ever need to unload the file again.

But yes, it is the compatibility mode option will not light up for me to use it, either in the 'new' or 'profiles' boxes.

Yes, the source drive and dvd are all correct.

I am trying to burn it again now, and after 20 minutes of writing the info into my computer, it shows that the remaining time is 10 hours and 10 minutes and 57 seconds. Is that normal?

The dvd I am trying to burn is brand new, out of the box.

I have been trying to burn this dvd for soooo many hours now, looking through the forums, have gone through 3 disks which will not play. I am going to find out how long it really takes to finish reading it, so I may be down for a few hours (to rest, been up most of the night trying to figure this out)

I have been using X XXXXX previously, it seemed so much easier (I just bought this program to try, I know why they don't call it X XXXXX !!!!).

It seems your DMA is not active. Look here to fix it.: Enable DMA mode in Windows XP (http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm)

You basically un-install the primary and secondary IDE channels from the device manager. But there are pictures in the link i added.

It should not take that long.

By the way what are your system specs, it will help us see the bigger picture.

Thanks, MCT:speak_cool:

PS- Forum rules state no other software is to be discussed here. I have slightly edited your post to not show this. Thanks

re: setting DMA, MacStlyistT

Went to the DMA settings, and they both channels show DMA enabled, so I did not touch anything. It took a long time, I discovered, because when I cleaned out the temp folder, I left the empty folder called 'Pan's Labrynth,' so when I went to burn it, it said something about needing to delete things in the folder manually.

Thank you for the suggestion, you did not have all of the information.

I now have a new problem, when I hit 'new,' and it comes time for me to start, I hit the start button and the program locks up. This was not happening before. I tried burning another movie, and it does the same thing. I am going to reinstall the program (again), and see if it goes away. If not, I am going to start a new thread, not one called Re: using machinest2, since this is a new problem.

However, if you or anyone else have any feedback, I will come back to this thread. Here is my system specs you asked for:

Processor:GenuineIntel Family 6 Model 14 1.8 (dual processor, 1.8Mhz)
Memory: 1536MB, 20% utilized
Video: 1400 x 1050 in 32-Bit Color, NVIDIA
Operating System: Windows XP

I am persistant with this, everyone please stay with me. I am not giving up!

We are far from giving up :) I suggest to do a clean install. Copy the text below and paste it in word or wordpad to follow, print it if you so desire too. Keep us posted on what happened also if you changed the temp directory insure it is set in the dvd next copy setting to do so as well.

Write down your Key to unlock the software.

You need to completely remove all versions from your computer.

1. Go to your Start / Programs menu and uninstall all versions of DVD neXt COPY. Do not save anything it will ask to save profiles and registry information say no.

2. Restart your computer.

3. Click on Start / Search for files and folders.

4. Click on all files and folders; enter dvdnextcopy with no spaces and click Search.

5. Delete all dvdnextcopy files and folders that are found in the search and restart your computer.

6. Do step 5 again to make sure you get rid of all the dvdnextcopy files and folders.

7. Run CCleaner.

8. Go to our support page and re-download the latest version to your hard drive with all firewalls and antivirus turned off.

(Make sure you select save instead of run and save the file to your hard drive. Then install it from your hard drive).

9. After installation, restart your computer and run the software. You may be asked to re-enter your serial number again.

Thank you everyone! Did clean install, left temp box in original location, and I was able to (almost) burn Pan's Labriyanth, except for one small detail I could live with, but would like to know how to fix.

It plays fine, the menus work, but the only thing it will not do is fast forward or reverse (it will skip to the different chapters, however).

I am using sony DVD-R disks, which I have had no problem with this feature on my computer or either of my dvd players (using 1-click), so I do not think that it is the disk. I am setting it on 18x speed (when I tried another (a lower) speed, I get error messages and will not even start the process, which took some time to figure out). I find it is best to use all the default settings (even through I saw some suggestions in other posts for a slower burning speed; did not work for me, program did not run).

Another note which may help people: in my second project (nip/tuck back-up copy) I got an error message:

The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b.
AppName: dvdnextcopy2.exe AppVer: 2.7.4.2 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00018fea

I noticed in the menu that one of the folders checked had '0' megabites, so I unclicked it, and it ran fine.

So, anyone have any ideas about the fast forwarding/rewinding of the movie?

I am burning the nip/tuck now, will let you know how it goes; almost there with Pan's Labriynth :)

What are you PC specs?

CPU type?

RAM installed?

HDD sizw plus the amount of free space?

Also what is the read setting you use and the burn setting?

To add to this shut down any other programs that might be running in the backround this will also help you in making a perfect copy!
