My "current" version is DNC 2.7.7.2 - It has worked BEAUTIFULLY for me but, like an idiot, I upgraded to the latest version - now I am getting messages that I need a decrypter, yet I never needed one before with the 'old' version. When was this changed and WHY isn't there any warning about it on the download site anywhere?

I uninstalled the 'current' version and went back to the 7.2 version and all is well again. Even with an external decrypter, will the current version still change region coding and disable RCE?

what were you using for a decrypter before it sounds like you may have uninsatlled it the latest version works fine with the machnist 2 and anydvd and yes it will still remove the region code if you have one of the two installed.
you do not have dvd43 installd do you?

dvd next copy has always requiered a third party plugin AKA the machnisnist or anydvd

I had/have absolutely NO decrypter installed beforehand. I downloaded the 'trial version' that was on the website in late June and activated that directly when I bought a license.

I just reinstalled via the original .exe I downloaded from the site in June, reactivated and it all works fine again, decrypting perfectly... looks like, somehow, that download had the decrypter in it.

Dvd next copy has never and I repeat never had a builtin decrypter the program can not copy a movie without either the machnist2 or anydvd or dvd43 you must have a decrpter of some kind installed on you PC or else it would not work at all!!

the install .exe has a dll in it called 'machinist2.dll' with a date of May 4th... here's the weird thing though - I just remembered, I didn't get the 'trial version' from DNC's website directly - I got it from one of the PC Mag 'shareware' sites - that's how I got turned onto it in the first place! Looks like they "modified" the file a bit - Glad I didn't delete the original exe.

look just update to the current version and google platinumripper and install it and you will be good to go with the latest version you will see it listed as third party plugins.

I just downloaded the machinist platinumripper exe - is it 'seamless' once installed like I've been getting with DNC? I mean, you click OK, the RCE removal pops up and away you go? I want to make sure my partner won't have any trouble with it.

We take our DVD's so many places with us and the portable player that without a great program like DNC, the original discs would have had to be repurchased hundreds of times - of course, I'm sure the studios would like that. I'm just trying to back up new purchases so they don't get ruined!

the machnist works in the background you will never see it what I really would like to know is what site you got DNC from if its not too much trouble because it has never had a ripper/ decrypter built within the program it is illeagal in most countries to do so.

you will not have any problem with the machnist 2 the program was desinged to work with it.

That was back in June, it was one of the "shareware" sites that the PC magazines host or point to. The exe is called "DVD Next Copy Setup Trial" and is 6.04mb in size. The version I downloaded a few weeks later from the DNC website directly is called "DVDneXtCOPY_V2_7_7_2" and is 6.0mb in size. I thought I had deleted the 'trial' copy at the time so I downloaded for a backup copy - so, they are indeed different. If I could send large attachments, I'd email you a copy of the 'trial' exe.

OK here's the deal. I have no ideal why the decrypter was embedded on the program install as this is a GPL violation as I guarantee that they didn't include the modified program in the license, So what you need to do is update to the current version and google platinumripper and install it . PC Mag I assure you had no partake in this so I am willing to believe the installer had an automatic installer to install the machinist. This is why you never needed it before. The update will state that the machinist.dll is indeed installed but this is a dll to call up the machinist I bet. It isn't the ripper included or embedded in the program.

Once installed that's it. It will run in the backgraound and no need to worry about it.

This is bizzare - that 'trial' version is why I thought DNC had a decrypter built into it and was so shocked today when I tried to install the newer build. I wish I could remember the name of the site, but like I said, it was back in June and I had visited MANY sites that day looking for a good DVD backup program.

You are in no trouble either so don't worry. You bought it and was stooped to think it was built in. Sorry about that.

Oh, no problem - I don't mind zapping it to you but I can't send attachments that large, I don't think... actually, I never have had a need to.

Use Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire (http://www.mediafire.com/) and you can link it in a post or PM micro with the download link. :)

I would like to add this is a first and I am sorry if I sounded overbearing but Both Charlie and myself have had DNC sense it was first launched almost two years ago so someone installed the machnist into the program I am quite surprised we have not run across this before.:)

Hi guys - actually, I purchased it via the DNC website directly - I've been "burned" in the past by buying 'off-site' so I don't do that anymore - and I printed and saved copies of my emails from DNC with my serial number, etc... Oh, and when I did a clean install today, everything activated fine.

Thanks so much - I'm just glad I decided to post - I don't want something floating around out there like that that could cause the company troubles! I like DNC and want it to stick around and NOT go the way of X-Copy.

No problem and very wise to print and save the emails on the invoices too.

BTW, if you can, please zap me an email and let me know what you find out about the program - I'm intrested to know, myself!

I'm thinking of upgrading to the "pro" version of DNC so I can use my DVD's on our iPod - does it do a good iPod re-compress? Anyway, I mention that because if I hadn't posted today, I would have thought the company 'ruined' the product with the 'new' decrypter-less versions and stopped thinking completely about upgrading to pro.

What's the upgrade cost to pro for current std owners? I haven't looked.

Charlie

19.99 to upgrade. I enjoy the Ipod and the PSP videos myself and think they are quite great in quality even at the default settings. Most software now days are decrypterless due to international laws even though some countries don't have these laws.
