Hi Vinny.:)

These new chipsets from Intel are very very new ( X38 ). I dont really know anyone that has one yet.
Saying this though all the previous Intel board chipsets have worked really well and i dont think this will be any different.

As long as it meets your requirements all-round in the Ram and CPU department then i say go for it. The reviews by others on the site were very good so that says something.

Just bear in mind ,, INTEL BOARDS ARE LOCKED !!! THERE IS NO OVERCLOCKING ALLOWED. but this is ok if your going to be using a Quad core system. Plenty of ninja in there.

Hope this helps,

This is from one of my used sites here in the UK Vinny.

This is a top board from Asus ( not the best but in the middle ) it uses the same new X38 intel chipset. This one also employs DDR3 ( also supports DDR2 800mhz if needed ) for blazing speed for the future. Team this up with a quad and you'll be the king of the hill. :speak_cool:

Just thought id show so similar alternatives.

yes it will be a quadcore setup Im hoping for some more reviews on this board as you said its fairly new I dont intend on overclocking it so thats ok now I have to figure out the what cpu to buy! lol

Oh yes. I think Quad core is the only way to go for nowdays new builds. :agree::agree:

With this horrible Vista creeping up on us , there is going to be a point we will have to change over from this superb XP. As Vista is so demanding , 4GB ram , Quad core CPU , and a direct X 10 graphics card are very much needed.:tounge:

So i will hold off a while for my upgrades.

Although i am lucky as the new AMD quad core CPU will work on this motherboard i have now !!! :agree::speak_cool: So i may only need a CPU to start with ... lol :tounge:

yeah you are lucky in that respect I am going to stick with XP till I am forced to change lol!

Oh yeah , me too Vinny.:wink: Xp is working sweet with this X2 and my current mobo. For a dual core system its a powerful as they come.

But i would like to extend my ram ( and use it all ) by going onto a 64bit system. This would allow one to make the most of the ram installed. I could not justify buying XP 64 as its more expensive than vista premium 64 bit ( both oem ).

And this wet my appitite !! this is a real good deal : OCZ 8GB (4x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Quad Channel Platinum Low Latency XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P8008GQ) (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-108-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813)

yes I have 4 gigs installed right now but it only see's 3.25 of the four its great ram and thats an awsome price!

with the new setup it would read up to 8 gigs

These are supposed to be good boards sad to say I do not like ATI chip sets personally. Getting a quad core and staying with XP you might just want to go core 2 duo with faster FSB & RAM. Although I went to newegg and seen that if you want DDR3 there is only Intel. I may go with that if NVIDIA doesn't have boards out by then supporting DDR3.

Hey Vinny. :speak_cool:

XP and quad core CPU will work completely fine. ?? The CPU will do the same job as it will on a Vista OS. Its just the RAM that could be an issue , although this is a 32bit issue. Once you go onto 64bit OS this will be fine as you can install as much as the mobo allows. But use what OS you need to Vinny dont go Vista if you dont need to spend the excess. Plenty of gahonnas in that XP platform yet.:rolleyes:giggle:

Vinman

Are you going to be keeping your same Thermaltake Case Vinman. ???

Many are buying new ones , but these cases last years and years. From what i can see in the " SHOW US YOURS THREAD " yours seems in excellent condition throughout. :agree:

That really is ice cool. :speak_cool:

I have a feeling though the Quad core will generate more heat. But if you can keep it in the 20's thats still outstanding. :agree::agree::agree:

Doubt it'll be in the 20's but maybe the higher 20's with that CPU?

Hi :)
Not going to say anything about Intel boards.
However this idea of CPU temps being so low.
Is there a reason why Intel & AMD both refer to optimum performances given at between 35c & 60c? (Intel tend to be lower than AMD).
A good cooling setup will maintain the temps to between +/- 5c.
So anything below 40c is not necessarily in your interests.
These sub temps are a bit like OC'ing. Fine in theory, but what true gains in everyday computing is questionable.
Ideally your PC temps should be pretty much the same throughout.
CPU - Graphics card - Hard drives.
The temp of the mainboard should be just over half that of the rest.
Example - my setup.
Mainboard = 25c
CPU = 40c (all 4 cores within +/- 2%)
GPU = 40c
HDD's = 38c
These temps remain pretty constant.
Under load (really going for it, loading approaching *100%. Not practical. But interseting testing.) the temps rise around 15% max.
I have W/C for the case & HDD's (the CPU W/C isnt currently used as I am using a liquid H/S/F assembly.
*Under this load fan noise from the W/C radiators doubles.

your spot on there zeb I have to go in and adjust the temps and get them more in line with specs youve stated at least up to 25 on the cpu the case and drives are pretty much in the ball park 28 to 30 its the cpu I have to go in and adjust that one!
