View Full Version : New and Somewhat Disappointed

I have been using this product for a while and find it easy to use and fast. In fact I have purchased two copies of the standard version one copy of the Pro version and One copy of the Easy version. But I, like others, don't really take the time to read the SOFTWARE LICENSE on almost (maybe all) of the software products we purchase and it was with a great deal of surprise that I found that DVD neXt COPY end-users license agreement does not allow purchasers to remove the product from one system and reinstall it on another. They will only allow reinstalls on the original PC(s)
I find this to be a really BIG disappointment, it means that if I, like many, purchase a new system, I now have to purchase a new copy of DVD neXt COPY. It also means that if I sell or give away, my old system, I can include the DVD neXt COPY program, because it is licensed to the PC not the user.
I really wish the company would reevaluate their position on this issue.

Thank you for your concern I have read through the end users deal myself but not as thorough. I assure you that if you do get a new system though you are well taken care of as long as the system you got rid of doesn't have DNC installed on it. Also you can install each paid DNC product on up to 2 PC's and run the at the same time too ( allot of other companies don't allow this or will allow this either). If you run into any situations about this I ask that you contact me personally either via email or the private message system here on the forum and I will work hard to keep you happy.

Thanks to both of you for your comments and suggestions. Tech. support finally came back and agreed to allow me to reinstall.
Just for your information here is the first reply that I received from Tech. support.

Please refer to the DVD neXt COPY end-users license agreement agreed to during installation:

SOFTWARE LICENSE

The Software is protected by intellectual property laws and treaties.
The Software is licensed, not sold.

1) This EULA grants you the following rights:

SYSTEMS SOFTWARE - .
You may install and use one copy of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on 2 of your
Personal computers or laptops, including a workstation, terminal or other digital
electronic device ("COMPUTER"). Storage/Network Use - You may also
store or install a copy of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on a storage device,
such as a network server, used only to install or run the SOFTWARE
PRODUCT on your other COMPUTERS over an internal network.

To explain it another way, with 1 purchase you get 1 serial number. This 1 serial number can be used on 2 of your personal computers. The software can be re-installed on those 2 computers and activated as many times as you need.

Our records indicate that you have already installed on the max number of computers granted in your license agreement. You can re-install and re-activate on the computers you already have installed on but must purchase a new license to install onto any additional computers.

Best regards,
Support

The bottom line is, once the software is loaded on a PC it belongs to that PC, unlike most other software that allow you to uninstall on a PC and reinstall on another. The key being that you can only run a legal copy on one PC (a majority allow you to run on a desktop and a laptop).

In my case I had installed a new drive, which I tend to do at least once a year, so I had too many installs on my license but they were being installed on the same "machine".

No worries the ordeal there was there was a new hard ware ID due to the new drive added I believe and this made the software think it was a new or another PC. Like I said if you get rid of that and be sure to uninstall DNC and get another you'll get fixed up at no charge. I am at a constant upgrade on my PC as well so never worry or get upset as I'll work for you and not DNC as we here give our free time to help those in need and we are not working for DNC.

Hello All!

I am not certain if this should be a new thread or not - I am a forum noob!

I too have this exact same problem. I originally had a Pentium 4 desktop computer that I installed this DNC Pro on. I uninstalled it from that computer to put onto my laptop. Umm... the backup process was far too slow on my laptop so I uninstalled it from that computer and put it back on my old P4 machine. I recently built a new quad core machine and attempted to reinstall the latest version of DNC Pro and I was rejected. I opened a case with support (#38834) and I received the exact same message that billsteiner quoted on 01/10/2008. However, my ticket status is closed and yet I still cannot reinstall the software on my new machine.

I appreciate and help/suggestions in the future!

Thanks for the info.

I opened up a new ticket with the following information:

Hello.

I have had this software for over a year now and love it. I originally installed it on my desktop and my laptop since the EULA said I can run it on two separate computers. However, it took a considerable amount of time to backup a DVD on my laptop so I uninstalled it from that machine.

Now I recently built a whole new desktop and no longer have the original desktop in which I originally installed DNC Pro. When I tried to reinstall it on my new computer, I received an activation error #20035. Is there a way to de-register the two computer you have record of and allow me to install it on my new one? Again, the EULA says I get to run it on two machines, but I only want to run it on one machine that happens to be new.

Thanks in advance

Hopefully they will understand. I like this software so much I bought it immediately after trying it out. However, I do not think I should have to re-purchase it when my original purchase gives me two licenses and yet I only want to run it on one machine.

They gave me an additional activation:

The software identifies each computer it is installed on. It also logs the IP and e-mail addresses. When you reformat your hard drive it has a new computer ID. We were looking at multiple IP addresses and computer IDs. However, since you have explained the reason for this, I have given you more activations. You'll get as many activations as you need for your two computers.

Just keep this ticket in a folder and use it to come back and ask for more activations. People like you who have a legitimate reason for more activations will receive them. It's just if there's a bunch of different computer IDs and IP addresses all over that it becomes an issue.

Support

I had to open two tickets to get this resolved. The person that worked the first ticket basically told me I was s*** out of luck. However the person that worked the second ticket was understanding.

Anyway, the software registered just fine and my problem is solved. Everyone, thank you for offering all these suggestions!
