You might be experiencing a Data Execution Prevention (DEP) conflict. DEP helps prevent damage from viruses and other security threats that attack by running (executing) malicious code from memory locations that only Windows and other programs should use.
To use DEP, your computer must be running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later, or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later. The newer computer hardware supports "execution protection". This is a hardware-based technology designed to mark memory locations as non-executable.
It is good to have this protection, but here is how you can still use your DVD neXt Copy software or any other software that is blocked by DEP:
To open System Properties, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
Click the Advanced tab and, under Performance, click Settings.
Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
You will see a button that is clicked that says:
Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only.
Below that you will see:
Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select
Click that button and select that option. Don?t worry, you still have the same protection as the default protection plus protection against all outer programs that might be hostile to your computer:
In the list field do the following:
If you see DVD neXt Copy as one of the programs in the field, you can turn off DEP for DVD neXt Copy if you click on the box with the green checkmark next to the program name. The box will be empty and you can then apply the changes, restart your computer, and the software should run ok.
If DVD neXt Copy doesn't appear in the list, click Add, navigate to your Program Files folder, or where ever you downloaded to file to, select the DVD neXt Copy executable file, which will have an .exe file extension, and add it to the list, click the green check box until it is clear. Apply the changes.
If cannot navigate to the program because you do not know where it is, search for DVDneXtCOPY and you should find it in a search.

How to check Firmware and Blank Media Tag/ID

Nero users

For those of you that have nero this is the tool you can use also or you can download it by Clicking Here (http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Info_Tool.html).

http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/7616/nero15is.png (http://imageshack.us)

This screen you can see the firmware version of your drive.

http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/3909/nero29rs.png (http://imageshack.us)

You click on disc and see the manufacturers ID/ Media Tag here.

VSO Users

There is a new way for those of you that need to use this and this is free as well. This is just like Nero and it's free too.

VSO-Inspector is a free add-on to report various information about your hardware configuration. Using this freeware, you can check the listed CD and DVD readers and writers connected to your computer, check the firmware used. The details about the media used and the speed supported by a given writer with this media. Also you can scan a burnt media for read errors and be confident about the readability of your fresh backup.

Detect and list the features of your CD/DVD writers:
- Supported formats
- Region details
- Firmware versions
- Buffer size
- Region Code
- Read modes
- Write modes
- Etc
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/4439/inspector1pj0.png (http://imageshack.us)

Detect and list information about the inserted media:
- Media type
- Capacity
- Media ID (manufacturer and/or model)
- Number of layers
- Supported speeds (with current writer)
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4772/inspector2ar8.png (http://imageshack.us)

Media Analysis
- Sector reading
- Definition of the area to check
- Definition of the read direction (as medias are mostly weak at the end of the burning zone, starting from the end is a good idea for a quick quality indication)
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6417/inspector3ww2.png (http://imageshack.us)

Quality Settings Explained

The results from these settings may vary slightly according to each individual’s computer.

In general this is what they mean.

Max. Sharp (Fastest) = The output is very sharp but it is possible that the picture might have some skipping effects.

Sharp (Fast) = The picture will almost be as sharp as the original.

Default (Normal) = The picture will be just as good as the original. *Recommended Setting*

Fluid (Slow) = Some movies will look better with this option with some blur.

Max Fluid (Slowest) = Some details might be lost due to heavier blur.

The best thing to do is play around with these settings until you find which one works best for you and your setup. Most of the time default is the best.

Slow reads & PIO mode!

Go to
1. My Computer

2. Control Panel

3. System

4. Hardware

5. Device Manager

6. IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

7. Open the installed IDE channels (Primary and Secondary)

8. Click on Advanced settings

9. You will see the transfer mode. If any are PIO you need to un-install the channel (right click and choose uninstall) and re-boot. Windows will reinstall the device and return it to DMA mode.

10. Be careful when using this procedure because if you have an older hard drive or storage device that does not support DMA you could corrupt your data.

This thread is dedicated to show you the basics on reading the log file & posting your log if you encounter an error.

The basic log after you open the program to copy a DVD.

Note if an error occurs and you close it out and open DNC version 2 it will erase the problem log that you encountered previously. So you must open the log before closing the program (I suggest) or open the log before you try to redo the movie or another movie.

To get to the log so you can see it and post it click my computer>>> C drive>>> programs>>> DVDneXtCOPY2 folder>>>The log is labeled DNCLog.

Here's what will show before copying any DVD. Note what is in red to. The stuff that I have in red only needs to be removed for posting your log to get help. What is in red was replaced due to the serial(s) So this needs to be done to keep your key from getting blacklisted due to piracy. If you send an email to support ( use a support ticket ) All information must be present. On the forum it must be removed though.

This log will help us better help you as well so if you want better advise be sure to post your log. Remember this isn't a detailed log just the log after you open the program to run; more post(s) coming soon to show more details.

Here is a guide with pictures to help those that need it.

1. Go to System Properties by right-clicking on My Computer or via the Control Panel.

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/4902/dma1wq1.gif

2. Select the Hardware tab and you will see the screen below.

http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/9159/dma2xc8.gif

3. Look at the Device Manager section and click on the Device Manager button.

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/6531/dma3cd9.gif

4. This brings up the Device Manager screen.

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/8346/dma4eb9.gif

5. Open up the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers device branch. Then you will see a list of all the IDE controllers and channels in your system. Below is an example of what the screen would look like in a system with an Intel 440BX chipset.

http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/1059/dma5jx1.gif

6. Now, select any one of the IDE channels, right click and choose Properties. Or just double click on the IDE channel. In this example, we will check the Primary IDE Channel.

http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/60/dma6pd9.gif

7. You should then see the screen below

http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/7585/dma7jd6.gif

8. Now, select the Advanced Settings tab to get the screen below. Ah hah! As you can see, for some reason, Windows 2000 failed to auto-detect DMA transfers for my Ricoh CD-RW drive. This goes to show that, as advanced as it is, Windows 2000 is still not infallible.

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/5576/dma8sy9.gif

9. To enable DMA mode for the device, just click on list of options for Transfer Mode and select DMA if available.

http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/2647/dma9ot3.gif

10. Click OK and reboot. Your IDE device should now be using DMA transfers. Check the IDE channel's properties page again and you should see this screen.

There is some problems being posted and not too many users understand how things work so I thought I'd post the common solutions to most issues.

Won't burn DVD : Be sure you are using a blank DVD and not a cd as this won't work. If you had a bad read meaning that it wouldn't read the DVD make sure the files it created are deleted, also a bad read can be a bad disc sometimes cleaning the disc or buffing it with a non abrasive cloth can solve this issue, also note if it is brand new as funny and stupid as it sounds it may need a buffing or cleaning. I use a solvent called disc skip fixer.

Another good thing is to practice maintenance. This include running a spyware / adware program to insure nothing is compromised. I use adaware personal and it is free.

Anti-virus, I personally use AVG free as this doesn't conflict with all of my other apps. Norton is bloatware and so is Mcafee. What I mean by bloatware is that it will reduce the speed & performance of your PC.

If you want to use a good firewall I suggest zonealarm this is also free and doesn't bog down your system.

Cleaning the PC is a must and I use CCleaner this is also free and it cleans out unneeded registry entries too.

Last but not least I have a rule that I always have used and that is defrag your PC after copying and or burning 3 DVD's, this will improve system performance too.

Everything I listed here is free and will never cost anything to get and use they are updated just as much as the software you pay for. Note if I didn't mention your program feel free to ask about it here. There is allot of different ones out there and I am not saying these are the best. There is no best but personal experience is something to listen to when you are wondering. We have very knowledgeable people here that will assist you if you do have a question on any of these topics mentioned here. There is a few more posts in the post tutorial section and I highly recommend reading those as well as watching the flash tutorials as well.

We all try to help anyone here as you the user has made a purchase of dvd next copy and have a right to use it as you need to or when you need too.

Thank you for reading this and hope it may help you out.

Version 2

Hi :)
Many manufacturers provide their own tools for bitsetting, but sometimes those links aren't supported after a while. BenQ a prime example where many of the links have ceased since the deal with Lite-On. All is not lost however as Nero does this feature for many drives out there. [Important to note that Nero changes are sent to the drive. Therefore you don't need to repeat after a reboot etc. Software changes are generally temporal & have to be set each time].
Firstly if you don't want the whole Nero pckage the is that Nero's CD/DVDSpeed will do.
To start download CD/DVDSpeed & install (that is if it isn't already there.)
Run CD/DDVDSpeed. Select drive via the dropdown envelope.See example. [Picture #1]

http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/2905/sshot155ag5.png (http://imageshack.us)

Then goto Extra & drop down to Bitsetting & click.
This is what you should see.[Picture #2]

http://img456.imageshack.us/img456/126/sshot157lf0.png (http://imageshack.us)

In the following you see a window with the options.
Disc type tells you the media that can be booktyped.
Book Type tells you the current status.
New Setting will give confirmation of the chioce you've selected. (Chioce are via the dropdown window as seen here. To confirm change just click on Set Button.[Picture #3]

http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/8670/sshot158va7.png (http://imageshack.us)

If the change fails you'll see this.(It does not necessarily mean that booktyping is not possible. Only that if it's possible. Then via s/w is the only option).[Picture #4]

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/875/sshot159wd4.png (http://imageshack.us)

If a a success then confirmation will be shown.[Picture #5]

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/1597/sshot160yj6.png (http://imageshack.us)

If drives f/w supports auto bitsetting then it's likely that the options will be greyed out.[Picture #6]

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/5377/sshot161dd3.png (http://imageshack.us)

If this is the case then all you can do is a test burn & check booktype after.[Picture #7]

GUIDE TO USING BENQ DRIVES AND THE QSUITE UTILITY
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Benq are a great company that brought us some very much loved drives over the years. The models fitted with the Philips internal chipset were the ones that caused such a fuss and that took DVD burning into another level. Many of the new Benq made drives are now produced by the Lite-on corporation due to the selling of the company earlier this year. Although the internal components are different and arguably not as good, they still make all the drives fully compatible with the much loved Benq utility QSUITE.
This guide will take you through each option the Qsuite has to offer. It will cover all main aspects of the program and how Benq drives work in gerneral.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
WHAT IS THE QSUITE<o:p></o:p>
QSuite is an innovative application suite that compliments and enhances the convenience of DVD recording technology. Get control of your drive through the use of four built-in functions:--1) Book Type Management - Change a +RW disc to DVD-ROM format to ensure compatibility.--2) QScan - Test the disc to determine optimal speed and and configuration for a quality burn.--3) Test Write - Simulate writing on DVD+R / +RW / +R DL media to prevent wasted media--4) WOPC (Walking Optimal Power Control) - Adjusts speed to compensate for poor media quality.
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
QSUITE OPTIONS AND <st1:street><st1:address>BENQ DRIVE</st1:address></st1:street> INFORMATION EXPLAINED
310 313
SOLID BURNThe Solid Burn is embedded, meaning that it automatically learns to optimize writing quality, therefore ensuring maximum compatibility. You are provided with space in the firmware to learn/remember upto 6 write strategies in the qsuite. It is recommended that you clear your solidburn learned media every once in a while and create new strategies. You can clean your saved strategies by using the "clean" button shown in the right hand corner of Qsuite, see picture below. It is recommend that you always clear you solidburn before you intend to update or flash the drive with any firmware.

307
<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Write Right Technologies <o:p></o:p>BenQ's exclusive Write Right Technology utilizes two powerful features: Tilt Control and WOPC II (Walking Optimal Power Control II). By using these features the drive is able to maintain perfect control over both the laser beam angel and the power rate being projected onto the disc, ensuring every bit of your data is written at the best possibly quality.
<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Tilt Control <o:p></o:p>Tilt Control further ensures optimal writing quality by repositioning the OPU (Optical Pickup Unit) in order to maintain a 90- degree angle between the laser beam and the disc surface at all times, even on warped discs.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Book typing +R media<o:p></o:p><o:p> </o:p>
This feature allows the user to obtain best compatibility and playback from all +R / DL+R / +RW medias. book typing is basically the writer writing a small piece of information onto the DVD disc to let the media believe its a DVD ROM rather than a single layer +R format DVD. You are not physically changing the format as that is impossible, but you are still getting the exact same response and result you would from a DVD ROM.
Enable this setting in Qsuite to apply the book-type setting to all of your + format media burns. The benefits of this are the best possible read and playback compatibility for all standalone DVD players and DVD recorders. Although most of todays DVD players fully support many formats such as -R or +R they are mainly based on a DVD ROM. Book-typing is the safest way to burn all of your +R/+RW/DL+R format media, for the best possible compatibility. It is highly recommended.

303<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
WOPC (Walking Optimal Power Control <o:p></o:p>This is a technology that dynamically adjusts the laser power rate according to disc condition. BenQ DVDRW products, by default, have this function enabled to maximize writing quality. However, if you are confident that your DVD media are of superb condition, you can disable this function to reduce burning time. Or you might need to disable WOPC on poor-quality DVD-R media under low-speed (<4x) burning to increase chances of successful burning.

306
<o:p> </o:p>
<!--[if !supportLists]-->
Test Write<o:p></o:p>Because of defined DVD+R/+RW/+R DL technical spec, current DVD burning software does not support simulation writing of these media. With Test Write enabled, you can simulate data burning especially on rare and expensive media like +R DL. When simulation result is ok, it will be better chances for actual burning to succeed.

305
<o:p> </o:p>
<!--[endif]-->
QScan<o:p></o:p>DVD media come in various brands and printings on the market. For most consumers, it¡¦s really difficult to tell good discs from bad ones, and which brand will best suit their over-speed and high-speed (12x~16x) burning requirements.
By measuring TE/FE signal on blank DVD media, QScan is able to tell the disc quality by clear graphic description. It also probes the highest disc speed (might exceeds claimed speed) the supported by BenQ DVD ReWriter.

304

<o:p></o:p>
Over-speeding options
Qsuite has the ability to allow the user to overspeed many types of media to burn at higher speed than the media is rated. This basically enables the solidburn in the program to create a new write strategy to burn the desired media at the desired higher speed. This is not recommended and the quality of your burn could be sacrificed when doing so. Only the very best quality media is advised to be burned in excess of the rated speed.

311
Benq Information tab
This section is usually the fist tab to be displayed when Qsuite is opened. It displays some handy and needed detail you may require. Things such as firmware, the buffer and the interface, and handy media information to identify the exact media ID you are using.

312
