My Gateway FPD218w Monitor

woke up this morining and the monitor would not go on.
All I get is a ghost image of the gateway logo.
I have disconnected the power supply, disconnected the monitor cables and reconnected.
I have my old gateway vx700 monitor attached now.
upon chatting with the gateway tech, he came up with the monitor is dead,

Is there anything else I can do. and if not what is a good moniitor to get.
Warranty is gone.

Sorry to hear that dude. That plain sucks m8.

It does sound as if the monitor has packed up to be honest. But just to be 100% sure make sure all the connections were all tight and try again.
Then to completely confirm maybe you have a local friend that could try it with his setup then you will know for sure.

Good monitors to look our for are Samsung. I've used them traditionally for years and never had a problem. Widescreen is a good option nowdays too.

I tried the monitor on my old gateway and had the same symtoms
Just the ghost flashing gateway logo
The gateway I have now is a flat widescreen
I'm gona look into the samsungs and check out the westinghouse as well
although I will be driven by best price.

The sammy screens are better resolution and ratio than the westinghouse one.

You should be able to get a nice Monitor for that budget. In the US the Westinghouse are pretty popular and in some cases reasonable for the size you can get. I have not heard of them here in the UK but i could be wrong.
The Samsungs will be more expensive and probably smaller screen for similar price.
I remember a friend called Kipper ( a reviewer at cd freaks) bought a 22" Westinghouse for about $250 or something. That sounds like a great deal to me , but keep an eye on your local computer stores for sales.

The westinghouse is a good brand and cheap but the ratio is 700:1 where the sammys' are a bit higher if I remember right jusat look at the links I provided.

I keep seeing alot of Samsung in homes now for desk tops ,

Sams allways has good prices.

We need to get him a copy of PCDIAG , it will tell you whats your problems is from DOS boot up

right now I am using the vx700 crt which came with the old gateway.
It at least works till I get the ok from my wife to get a new monitor.
I have been spoiled by the 21 inch widescreen.though

Thanks again for all the suggestions and help.
I realized I have a s-video on my video card and am going to see what that looks like if I hook up to the Sharp Tv I have that has the s-video out.

did movie only as its huge with all the behind the scenes stuff.

I also just missed getting the westinghouse 22 inch it was on sale at bestbuy for 239.oo
will have to wait or get something reasonable at costco.
