View Full Version : Multi-Core Support?

Also, I noticed DVD Next Copy is only using 1 core. I believe this is good for older PC users, but they should add optional support for multiple cores so that reading discs is just so much faster with 2+ cores working on ripping it.
However, as a strong believer in backwards compatibility, do not remove support for single core!

It does Look here: DVD neXt COPY Version History
(http://www.dvdnextcopy.com/history.aspx)
Look at version 2.9.8.4 :) I have a C2D and it uses both :) Tony will have to speak for the Quad.

I do have that exact version on my Quad Core computer, but it is only using 25% of my CPU (or 1 core) account to task manager under processes.
Do I need to enable this some how?
This just keeps getting better!

64 bit OS will take advantage of more than 1 core. If you install 32 bit XP it won't.

How can it support up to a Quad then?
I don't believe that is necessarily true, as I have seen programs utilizing 2 or more cores through XP 32-Bit.
Oh, and if I ever sound a little rude on the forums, please do not take it personally. lol
Let me know.

Thanks, but I'm not running dual core AMDs. I'm running an Intel q6600 Quad, and they do not have timing issues or any issues at all playing games or performance wise. I will never buy Vista, as it's a POS operating system. XP is by far the best OS ever to be released. People won't let it die. I hope people will continue trying to export DX10 to XP.

Earl it is your right to have that opinion that Vista is a POS but ask most of us whom your asking support from ,ask what we are running and you will find most of us run that POS Vista Home Prem to Vista Ultimate to Vista 64.
Kind of absurd statement don't you think!!!
Just my opinion!!

Hi ,
I too run the same CPU. It does work well on XP , but after much research and fine tuning i have found out that XP is sort of restrictive of the newer grade hardwares.
As you mentioned as well the DX10 cards , i have a ATI HD 3870 GDDR4 512mb card and it performs on XP pretty well. But on Vista with the DX10 it needs it becomes a turbo charged rocket. The quad core's are used better in conjunction with the amount of memory you have too. I am in the process of going 8GB ram too , now XP again is holding me back from letting me build my desired system. I am a XP nut and love it to bits , but now i am getting more demanding hardware it seems Vista 64 is the way forward for me.
Just my experience ,research results and personal opinion.

Meh, I'm waiting for Windows 7 (codenamed Blackcomb, then Vienna) for release in 2010.
Hopefully, it does not suck like Vista.

Glad you found that post , The last tech note I got was on the future of Os's and subscription based, but hey were all gonna shift to Mac Pro 8core zeons , with quad boot.
Hey earnolmartin have you tried a linux setup with Fedora 8?

Well at least you have seen the light. This new edition OS is what is needed not exactly Vista. Its a step forward from XP anyway. Your hardware will thank you for it.:giggle:
PS , with that quad you should be pretty fast at encoding your movies. ?? Wana join in on the log wars ..... :tounge: :tounge: :tounge:

As you see McT runs XP 32 bit and it is using all cores from what I read. My opinion why not gripe at MS for not making a XP to support quad cores? Maybe he'll just laugh at the email?
I understand that the one link states dual cpu's it may just be what you need. I have allot on my plate but if all goes well I'll be installing XP and Win 2000 Pro in the coming months.
Meanwhile keep in mind you might disagree and you may not but we must at least acknowledge the help offered. ReadMeToo has given you the links and if he didn't think it would help he wouldn't of posted them for you. He works as a PC repairman in life so I never doubt his hotlinks fixes. Also with this in mind keep in mind that using a 32 bit OS will only utilize 1 of the 2 cores I think from my dual core I say yes I know. So let's all please get along as we want a friendly environment , I know this doesn't always happen but we can try.
Thanks
