My name is JohnP and I am a very new user. I do not know anything about using a Forum or how to navigate around the forum. In fact I may never find an answer to my post on the forum. I did find a possible answer to my problem of the software telling me that I have a good burn but the disk is blank. Please bear with me if I do not find my way back to this post for answers.

I'm back I found my way. Will wonders never cease. Ok here is what I have Windows XP home edition Service pack 2. Intel celeron 2.20 ghz. I have two dvd drives. one is read only and my burner is a HP dvd 1040. It is a new one my old one went belly up and quit burning last month. I am using dvd next copy 2.9.8.5 with the latest update 2-14-2008 and machinestdll.exe as my third party plugin. One question I have is the machinest dll.exe the only plug in or is there another one out there that might be better ??. I am also having trouble getting a backup copy of "The Terminator" I did a clean install and changed the custom mode change from 4484 to 4200. This time I got a dialog box saying "Resorting DVD content" and then a second dialog box saying "do you really want to cancel burn process" The only way out of the mess was to do a cold start on my computer.

Is the DVD scratched or dirty. I copied the whole trilogy just a few months ago. I usually keep a solution around the house to help me at times called "Disc Skip Fixer" almost any game store has this.

Hi JohnP , Welcome to the forum m8.
OK , you may find these programs handy. In my sig below is two progs , one called Ccleaner and the other AWC2 free edition. Both are 100% free and are decent system boost cleaner programs. Download them both and clean everything you find with them. This may remove some crap that could be on your system while attempting to encode.
You say that the first time you tried it worked but the disc was blank. ?? Was this on your computer or in your home DVD Player. ??
Thanks.
Also , what is the CPU usage when using DNC with that Celeron 2.2ghz CPU. :) to see this right click windows task bar , select Task manager and choose performance. It will show you how hard in % your CPU is working at one time.

I checked my cpu usage while using dvd next copy and it says 100%. The problem is only with this one particular dvd "The Terminator" with Arnold Schwarzenegger" the dvd is in very good shape with no scratched on it. I was able to copy terminator II ok. I was able to get copies of star wars all of them ok.

as charlie suggested clean the disc or take the movie to a rental store and have it resurfaced it sounds like you have a scratched disc they only charge a couple of bucks to resurface a movie disc.
Or aquire a different copy of the title you are trying to copy.

I downloaded Anydvd trial version and could not get it to work. I keep getting a dialog box "DVDnextcopy detected Anydvd as active. In order to use external software you need to enable the software compatability mode in the settings" I can not find a way to enable the software.

Look at the options in DNC there is a box there that needs checked called "Enable Compatibility Mode". put a check in that box. Below is a screen shot with the highlighted section that needs ticked.

Has anything new been installed or changed?

I have installed anydvd version 6404 and the same dialog box comes up. I then removed any dvd and did a clean install of DVDnextcopy 2.9.8.5 & latest update with machinest2dll and still the same dialog box. That is the only change I have done. Murphy's law is alive and well in this house.

I corrected my problem. I went to settings and cleared the dvd burner slot and then reassigned it. I did this to everything that I could think of the read drive, the burner drive I then did a computer restart and rechecked my changes. I did another burn and everything worked ok. Thanks
all of you for your input. I will triple check my choices before I start another burn just so this will not happen again. Again thanks all of you.
