Hello everyone! Another new DNC user here.

I've had DNC Pro for about a week now and have been playing around with it. So far so good. The learning curve has been a bit steep, but I'm an old hand with PCs and figuring stuff out so it shouldn't be too long before I can intelligently converse with the experts among you.

However, I have encountered a puzzle. I've been trying to copy Starship Troopers which I have on a double-sided DVD (not dual layer - double sided). Everything goes smoothly with DNC. I just have to copy each side separately and burn them to two separate DVDs. However, when I put the copied DVD in my DVD player it will play all the intro stuff and get to the menu screen. I select Play movie, and nothing.... I can hear the drive clicking like the drive head is lost, but the movie never starts and the screen stays at the menu.

I've checked all the FAQs here and made sure my burner settings were appropriate (booktype, etc). The copied DVD works just fine on 3 different DVD players in 3 different PCs.

I'm kind of scratching my head about this. The DVD player can obviously read the copied DVD, as everything plays right up to the menu. And it plays properly on PC DVD drives, so the movie has been copied properly. The player is a Panasonic DVD-S35 and is several years old.

Any ideas????

Thanks!!

Could very well be that your Panasonic player is unable to read the DVD completely. I would try playing it in another DVD player somewhere to eliminate or verify that possibility.

The Progressive scan isnt on is it?
If you do a Google on Panasonic DVD-S35 it has a history of problems. Some saying not lasting more than 2 yrs.

I'll be giving this a try.

My player seems to be fine. It hasn't had a hiccup playing any DVDs since it was purchased, so I'm assuming there isn't a maintenance problem. I looked in the player setup but couldn't find anything about turning progressive scan on or off. Maybe it has a different name than progressive scan?

To deepen the mystery, I tried another DVD this evening, Twister, to see if it would copy and play. No problems at all. DNC made the perfect copy and it plays just like the original in the Panasonic player. I did make the Twister copy using the 2-DVD drive method, whereas I made the Starship Trooper version by first reading the DVD into a DNC project and then burning from the project. I can't imagine there is any difference in the two methods.

-DelanHi and welcome
I would try the 2 dvd method again with the problem title, as well as the same way you tried it the first time, Im courious to see those results and want to make sure the program is functioning properly

I've made 4 different copies. One with a Sony DVD+R and the other 3 with Taiyo Yuden premium +R blanks. All 4 exhibit the same behavior.

I tried the problem title using the 2 dvd method and got the same result. The Panasonic player won't play the movie, as described in the above posts. However, during the prescan process I don't get any preview frames, even though enable preview is checked.

I still haven't been able to try the copied DVDs in other dedicated DVD players. I might be able to get to it this weekend, but it could be a few days. I'll post those results when I have them. That would at least indicate that the problem is with my Panasonic player or with the copies.

well if the movie did not require compression you would not get the preview frame during the copy process

As far as your other issue let us know the results on playing it on other players

Sorry it took so long to get back on this. Other than going to a store or invading my friends' houses I had to wait until I could get to some other dedicated DVD players. I tried it on a couple of others, and it looks as though the problem is with my Panasonic DVD player as the copy worked on other DVD players.

So the mystery is solved. I have no idea why my player is having problems, but that's the way it is. So I'm good to go for now.

Thanks to everyone for their quick and helpful responses to this!
