I upgraded from dvd nextcopy ver 2.9.9.6 express to ultimate dvd nextcopy.
I am using verbatim dvd's I selected on the main menu "Copy Full DVD", and "Burn Video DVD". After the program says that the burn was finished I tried to play the dvd. I get " This type of disc cannot be played. Please insert a different type of Disc" on the dvd player. Fortunately I kept my express version and I reburned using express ver 2.9.9.6 Everything worked fine. What did I do wrong using the ultimate version ??.

select your reader at the top source and if you have only one burner select the same as target ...if you have two burners use one as your reader and one as the burner insert the blank media in your second burner and the press copy .
you should be all set also make sure you try more than one title too please.

I checked my source drive and target drive they both read the same. I tried to burn another dvd and the same trouble . I also went to another dvd and tried to burn a copy, still the same problem. I will continue to try different options to see if I can get dvd ultimate to work.

Sounds like maybe the file is too large & the disc is not finalized. Can you copy the dvd to your harddrive & when complete check the size of the file & report back?

I downloaded the user guide and read section 4.0 simple mode (I am using
the same dvd reader and burner. I did a clean install as instructed by Charlie
verbatim for windows XP. I downloaded Advanced windowscare personal and
ran it and then did the clean install again.
I downloaded and reinstalled dvd ultimate. Still the same problem "This type
of disc cannot be played" I took the disc to my son's house and the same
screan came up. I them did another clean install as instructed and went back to my dvd nextcopy express which I have saved on a cd . Everything came out OK. It looks like dvd ultimate will not work on my computer. Any new ideas I can try.??.

Save you copy to your harddisk. Once it is copied go to the copied file & right click on the VIDEO_TS folder, click on properties & tell us the file size. Thanks

The dvd player is a Panasonic DVD-S53 1080P up Conversion.
My son's dvd plaver is newer than mine I do not know the model but
it too is a panasonic. One question I have is why does the old version
2 express work and the new ultimate ver 3 doesn't ??.
My hard drive has 17.8 gb used space

Having the same issues! My issues with Version 3 are:
1.) Most stand alone players reject burnt backups "(Disc is not DVD format). I have three dvd players, Toshiba HDDvd A2, Sony, DMTECH (Made in China). The only player that doesn't have issues with DNC3 backups is the cheap made in china DMTECH. Using machinist2 with the default settings in DNC3 I get these results. Also, using AnyDVD 6.4.8.1 and the following settings UNchecked in DNC3 (Remove region Code, Enable error correction, fill bad sectors), allowing Anydvd to do its thing I get the same. With the sony I can play the backup made with DNC3 only by selecting main menu on the remote. It will not auto start like with the cheap dvd player I own.
2.) Burn to harddrive seems to ignore burn speeds that were set in the settings area. Set at 11080 KB/s (8x) and sometimes it burns automatically at 22160 KB/s.
3.) Burn engine seems to prefer DVD-R's over DVD+R's when burning. (Many Finalization issues with +R's, even with quality media. Never any burning issues with -R's
4.) When burning to the hard drive the folder created is named VIDEO_TS by default / Why no label for the DVD just backed up? Example: GET SMART, when copied to the hard drive it now becomes VIDEO_TS. What's Up with that?
5.) "Movie Only" backups show all the Audio selected after PreScan, but the results are a scrambled bunch of titlesets out of sequence an NO AUDIO!!!!
Anyone with DNC3 try making a backup of Example: "GET Smart" Movie Only, Post your results and don't LIE!!!
:wink:On a positive note: With DNC3 the issues with FWD/REV seem to have been solved!
Also, the copies have a good clarity to them. The ones that I can actually get to play!
:confused:What kinda math is DNC using when it came to upgrading from pro? $69.99 is not $29.99. 20% discount equals $14.00!

Email sales at DNC Inc and explain the price thing. Another user got the same and DNC Inc helped them out. Have your original and new invoice for the email sent to sales. As for the playback this is the second issue stated and I'll let DNC Inc know about this but it is best if you email them over that as well.

Have you tried uninstalling previous versions of DNC and decrypters? I made sure to uninstall V.2 Pro and Machinist first before upgrading. I also deleted any folders and licensing info relating to v.2 Pro. Also, why are some folks using AnyDVD decrypter when I thought that Machinist is the recommended one for DNC? All I know is that mine works perfectly fine so far with v.3 and Machinist.

Not an expert since I just started using V3, yet I don't think you click on both "Copy Full DVD", and "Burn Video DVD". 'Copy' is to start a project and the 'Burn' is to finish or continue with a project [Video_TS folder] already on your HD.
Try just opening the program, go to 'Settings'. On the General tab, set your temp path.
On Burn set your burning speed.
On Use Dual Core to True (if Applicable) and check 'Verify After copy'. OK
Now just click "Copy Full DVD", Select source, and Select Target. I'd suggest ISO Image. Click on the menu icon to the far right of the Target and choose your option for you copy. I'd suggest custom. Then click on the 4482 to bring up a spinner for choosing the custom size. 4300 to 4350 is good.
Click "Copy Now" at the bottom.
Assuming a success, click on 'BurnDiskImage" choose the burner and then the ISO you just made. Click "Copy Now" at the bottom.
I also am having will not play problems with version 3. I am using the same discs verbatim, same speed 12x,same computers and have attempted the same three movies. All will play on all my dvd players I own With old Version 2.9.9.6. With new version 3 back ups will not play on Two models of Toshiba players an HD-A2 and HD-A3 , and a Magnavox MSR90D6. Old version will play on these. When I play The version 3 Copies on these Players I get "this disc is not DVD format, cannot play this disc".

Charlie,
Thanks for suggestion about contacting DNC in regards to the price of the upgrade from pro. In less than 24hrs they have refunded me any money they charged over the $29.99 upgrade fee.
Also, through trial and error I have found that with either Machinist2 or AnyDVD I can get a Good PLAYABLE BACKUP by "Copy to iso Image" then using "Burn disc Image"
This is the only way I've found to get copies that will play on all my stand alone players "even the Toshiba HDDvd player I own"!
Hopefully DNC will fix whatever issue exists with the normal burning process that some are experiencing "like myself", that is playability on different players.

Look at the quotes to get the Panasonic player firmware update. For the Toshiba HD players here is the latest firmware for your players Click HERE ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). I do not know how you would update on the toshiba ones as I don't own a HD player but I have a PS3. Hope this helps.

To those that are having playback issues, have you tried to play the burned DVDs on a newer deck? Maybe even taking a disc to a "Big Box" store to see if it will read on one or two of the display models? Just a suggestion. Some brands will read copies better than others.
My new samsung dvd recorder wich is not even a year old has the FF and FR problem as V2 with my V3 back ups. My Insignia wich is about a month old plays the movies but the picture is messed up and has the FF and FR problems and this is with both V2 and V3 copies. MY PS2 will not play at all says a unreadable disc or to insert a playstation supported disc, this is also with V2 and V3 copies. But my Citizen which is 8 years old plays the discs made with V2 and V3 with no issues and even the FF and FR works. I just don't like using it because the digital optical does not work anymore. EDIT I still loving the V3 right now and going to be testing it thoroughly in the next 3 days

Come to think of it, I do recall experiencing FF & FR issues. However, I rarely use those modes anyway. I, too, will test v.3 copies to see what other issues come up.

I thought I would post as others are posting about dvd player issues here but to me V3 is 100 times better than V2. The only time I use those modes is when I see a good scene and want to go back to it. I already submitted a support ticket about what I said in my post and was told in email within minutes of sending it that they will forward it to a supervisor

Good Morning DNC,
At least on this Veterans day we have no DMZ:agree:
I believe it's important to submit a support ticket for these annoying issues. Also I would not expect a response that immediately resolves your issue. I suspect DNC support will generate some form of database of problems, and issue a an UPDATE which tackles, the most common problems. Patience is required, an UPDATE will be coming (I'm not involved with DNC, in any form), but this is common within the software industry. There used to be the old adage never buy versions ending in zero (1.0, 2.0...etc), as those that did were the early pioneers who found the problems quarks & anomaly's, while later adopters did not experience problems.
If your having problems I suggest following this excellent forums staff advise plus & minus the following:
Hi Guys,
I have not had a DNC, problem "playback on a DVD player, in a long long time; I'll share what I do:
Every 2 - 3 months I visit my burner mfg web site & insure I have the latest Firmware for the drive(s).
Every 3 - 6 months I open the tray's on the DVD burners & players & give them a blast of "Canned Air" cleaning the lens this way is mfg's preferred method.
I only use Verbatim or TY's, I could care less about any other brand or sale price! NOTE Verbatim may have changed, somewhat in reliability, next time I need discs it's TY's.
When using + disc's, I use "Booktype" see your burner mfg. literature for setting.
Just prior to using DNC, I dump the trash using CCleaner.
Optional depending on your machine power. I close all tray items before DNC is doing it's thing, I do not allow other operations to start. DNC is the star & nothing else competes with it, I do not get coasters! NOTE I know some here will say this step is not necessary, but this works for me!
I find most ( my guess 99.8% ) playback problems occur during the write phase. I set the burn speed to 1/2 the rated disc speed. 16x disc, my burn rate is 8x. I'm not concerned with the extra minute or two, required to complete the burn.
Should you still have consistent problems, wait for an update, & in the meantime use 2.9.9.6. Should the problem(s) be common to both versions, this should be looked at differently, & focus on procedures used to make a copy.
Minus - If you can make a playable copy with version 2 & not with 3, I would not UPDATE firmware for the player (If doing this use extreme caution & follow mfg's instructions to the letter), as a forthcoming update is sure to resolve/improve the matter.
As for myself DNC 3 playback is fine (so far) using AnyDVD & my procedures listed above. Note - My procedures were written for version 2, but most carry forward to version 3.
Take Care

Hi Guys,
I just remembered very occasionally with previous versions, I had a disc that would not play, in my player. This worked almost perfectly for me:
"Full" movie copy DNC = not playable on player. using same original
"Movie Only" = Success!
Not sure why, but it's worth one disc to see if this helps.

I went to the site listed above for firmware updates for my panasonic s53

Hello JohnP,
The closest I can come to finding firmware for s-53 is:
See: Here ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
Support does not list an update for this player, therefore the others listed (search google) are/most likely "Hacked" firmware, for other reasons. I would suggest you avoid "Hacked" firmware, as it may render the machine useless.
Call Panasonic 800-211-7262 perhaps the DVD-S54 firmware will work?
Do you have the same problem, should you choose "Movie Only?"

Hi all, After working with dvd nextcopy tech support they said that the problem with the disc's not playing will be turned over to the software
engineers. So I will wait for a software fix that will be coming. Just when I do not know. But I expect it will be soon.
Thank you for your help and reporting to the company it helps speed up the updates when we have members all contacting support as well as the forum reporting any issues.
Thank you all who have emailed support we all appreciate your time and trouble!!

Are you all referring to updating the DVD player itself? If so, how in the world would I do that? Hook it up to my computer and then update it?
Thanks for any help.
Paul.

to update a dvd player you burn the firmware to a cd and put it in the player thats it. I would get better media as well memorex is bottom of the barrel stuff try verbatims or TY's.
Also parose update to SP3 as this will fix some problems that you not know you have

I had the same problem here, and got it to work. Just set target to iso image, then after copy is complete click on burn disc image , then burn. All the copys play on all dvd players here now..:)

I'm having the same problems too. I just cleaned my Pc, ran a fresh install of V3 & still no luck. Lost a lot of blank DVD's in the effort. Uninstalled V3 & went back to the last Version of 2.9 everything is okay now. They need to work out the bugs before they sell any more copies.

You may request a refund of the upgrade fee if you wish you have 30 days.
