I will be attempting to put my 3 year old gateway back to operation.
I had purchased a new motherboard a while back but I think I did not have a adequate psu to work with.
Now I will be swapping the psu from my build to the gateway and install the new thermaltake 750w to the build along with the 4G of new skill memory.
I have the reinstall disc from the gateway along with the key that is on the outside of the case.
will this disc let me reinstall the os on the new motherboard.?
I'm in Virgina at the moment so all this will be happening Tuesday I hope.

I will have to wait to check that out. what I remember is that it looks like a bar code with the microsoft logo on it.

oem remove 5 digits on the side of the case so you cant use the serial number but if you have the restore disc than you should be ok.

I would still give it a go with OEM. :agree: I have used them on various builds in the past and although it might state you cannot activate them after a short call to ms they reset it for me every time.
If its on the exterior then i would say a retail key.

Thats easy enough to fix, magic jellybean finder for the key.

Motherboard doesnt matter , load that puppy the serial is matched to the Gateway OEM disk, there are 32 set of different keys on thats disk with 16 sets of activations " OOOOPs I MADE THAT PUBLIC" My bad!!!
Thats why when you call tech support they ask you for the serial an model if you registered the machine.
I just did this on a Gateway MX3225
OEM disk and with key on outside with a new Hd'

New Power supply in the build you guy's helped with.
Quite and neater looking cables.
Next Question?
I got the 2 2g sticks
do those go 0 and 1 and then the 2 1g sticks are 3 and 4
Thanks

i would just put in the 2 2gig sticks brad if there the same then they will run in dual channel which would be faster access times rather than putting in the 6 gigs.

It seemed like there was some paint or something that was keeping the fan from moving.
I turned off like you said and when i used a coffee stirer to move the fan.
It loosened and now its purring away.
Thanks
