The question I have is: Should you leave your computer on (24/7) or shut it down daily & why? Any thoughts?

I leave mine on 24/7. I turn off the monitor most of the time.
I believe that it takes more power to shut down & start up that letting it run. JMO

Thanks Hemi, I added DDR and new HDD. I wanted to keep old drive, but it was shot/ I left it on 24/7, now wondering if I killed it.
Thanks,
Tim

I seriously doubt that you killed it by leaving it on 24/7 :disagree::disagree:

I shut mine down every night with no issues what so ever
I had one before that I left on 24/7 and it fried on me
I cant think that with the heat generated it does it any good leaving it on JMHO!

I leave all 4 sytems that I have networked on 24/7. That way i can schedule the maintanace and updates and such to run through the night. I set the monitors to power off.
I turn mine off at night as the PSU is so noisy that it keeps me awake and my other computer I barely use it so I only turn it on when I am too lazy to walk to the bedroom also I only have mine on when I am home.

A good article to read Should You Shut the Computer Down? ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

cut and paste from that link!
In recent years, the part Ive seen fail most often in PCs is the power supply, definitely the part that gets stressed the most at power-up and power-down, but also the one with the most mechanical stress on it.

another cut and paste from that link
Turning the computer on or off, so the theory goes and accurately I believe, is the most physically stressful thing you do to it all day, so I think most experts have advised that its better to leave the system on.
I just was thinking that mine is on from early morning till late at night and sleeps as much as I do so I am not turning it on and off so to speak but once a day and for no more then 8 hrs as we both need a rest lol!

Now if you do a lot of gaming and DVD back ups then I would think turning it off would be a safe bet for the internals
