New Dell Insp. 1625 Laptop, I installed Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007. Word & Power Point works fine, Excel appears to open in wordpad but not readible? Dell help desk can't help without $$$$'s! I am looking at forum's in Microsoft websites, but no help yet. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have 3x's, I will try again. I am used to Office 2000 myself. I am totally lost viewing 2007 on Microsoft's website. I will try to reinstall and validate activation with each program Word, Excel,Power Point,Access.
Thanks,

I believe there is a toll free number you can call MS and have them reset the key over the phone just let them know your having issues installing it, I use the same one and have had no issues to speak of. Maybe something is corrupt or a bad source disc?

I don't understand this post. Do you mean when you try to open Excel by clicking it's ICON it opens wordpad or when you click on an Excel file it opens in Wordpad?

OK, I have schedules (Sports) emailed to me put together in excel, when I try to open the attachment it has nothing but triangles, squares ect... some words are readible but no other data. I would love to get the version you recommend and most likely will. I loaded this version on my desktop and it works fine thus kinda ruling out the bad disc. I spent almost an hour or more with Dell support only to be told I would have to go to the next level up and it would cost $$$$ for them to help me. This is why I think the laptop (it looks like word pad when I open an attachment) is the issue? I am sorry if this is not clear (my description). I am runing out of times I can load this product on machines.

RM2 earier said than done, it took a Microsoft tech over an hour with me on the phone to get the program to open in excel. He knew what, but took for ever to meneuver to the where, any how all things in Excel land is flourishing. That just sounds wrong. Thanks for the imput.

Great idea on the post I had planned on doing this. My son was on the phone most of the time with the Microsoft tech. We will put something together and post it. The files where excel 2003 version, not Open Office . Briefly excel was not set to open the files? This is where I need to talk with my son later tonight for more info. I will post the findings asap.

I was gonna say it sounded to me like the file association wasn't set. I would have suggested checking that first. Simply open any folder, click on Tools at the top, then file types and scroll to the .XLS file type and make sure it says Excel. Sounds easy but often the easy solution is the best.
