A good friend of mine tells me that after installing sp2 he gets a black screen. trhe system will not boot. now he has not brought this machine over yet so coulod not tell you for sure what is going on. but i would think using sytem restore would work. the question is can you access it from startup or do you have to use command prompt in safe mode? or should i just use a recovery dvd?

i would check if it is on-board video or a video card first sounds like maybe the video is gone or maybe a corrupt driver

no this is something a little bit more serious than that i think its a pretty new machine. but thats a good point. i have been reading alot of horror stories about other people having this issue with sp2 on there vista machines after installing sp2. i think alot of guys here are on 7 allready but anyone here have vista sp2 installed? any problems? just currious because my macine haqs not told me it wants it yet so i dont know whats up
My PC runs Vista Ultimate 64 SP2 - it works fine. No problems.

well he decided that he would let the geeks at the best buy look at it since he had an extended warr. they are telling him that the drive is bad i doubt it. anyway sorry for the useless post hoped to go somewhere with this but nope
I wonder if the problem occurs when you update to Vista SP2 w/o having the latest video driver. It may be SP2 does not recognize the older one.
